Mike "The Giant" Bauer
Woodwind Repair Technician
Our master woodwind technician has been repairing woodwind and brass instruments since 1970. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music Performance from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Mike received his first technician training at Western Iowa Tech., and later tutored under the renowned master technician, H.B. Johnson, in Nashville, TN. In addition, he has attended many master classes and seminars in advanced woodwind repair techniques. Mike has also visited numerous manufacturing facilities and has received additional training from the original manufacturers themselves. Over his 40-year career as an instrument repair technician, Mike has had the opportunity to work all throughout the Southeast and beyond, including the Bahamas.
Mike owns Giant Steps Music in Chattanooga, TN., one of the leading repair facilities in the Southeast. It is there that Mike has personally supervised the training of many technicians over the last 30 years, including our master brass repair tech, Stan Leamon. Furthermore, Mike does all the repairs for the UTC band program, his alma mater. Mike brings a great deal of repair experience and knowledge to the shop, ensuring that our customers will receive quick, professional, and affordable repairs in our facility.
With a combined 50+ years of experience, Mike Bauer and Stan Leamon have "seen it all," having repaired anything from the most minor issues to the most severely damaged instruments.
